This video is part of a series about climate change supported by Breakthrough Energy - a coalition founded by Bill Gates, that is working to expand clean-energy investment and support the innovations that will lead the world to net-zero carbon emissions.

Climate Change is just too much. There is never any good news. Only graphs that get more and more red and angry. Almost every year breaks some horrible record, from the harshest heat waves to the most rapid Glacier melt. It’s endless and relentless.

We have known for decades that rapid Climate Change is being caused by the release of Greenhouse Gases. But instead of reducing them, in 2019 the world was emitting 50% more CO2 than in the year 2000. And emissions are still rising. Why is that? Why is it so hard to just stop emitting these gases?

Everything is fine with Mother Earth and her seven seas because there is NO REAL CLIMATE EMERGENCY, only normal unpredictable weather despite what cruel "child scaring hysterics" say! They are wrong and you can relax about your precious children's future. Atmospheric CO2 is still too close to starvation-levels at current 400 ppm, so we could be living in a greener and lusher world if it could be boosted to 1,000 ppm again, as in past lush Interglacial periods. Humans are now recycling past plant-material transubstantiated into coal and oil which contribute very little to this huge global CO2 metabolism. Green plant photosynthesis must be able to eat atmospheric CO2 to fabricate Carbohydrate sustenance and release O2 gas for us to breathe. Gaseous CO2 is for plants like life-giving breathable O2 gas is for us humans and animals. CO2 is NOT a poisonous weather pollutant and instead we depend on green plants and their productive use of CO2 for our survival! FACT IS that we live at the tail end of a 10,000-year INTERGLACIAL CYCLE and in just another one or two thousand years we are likely to slowly enter a statistically inevitable ~90,000 yearlong ICE-AGE. The seas in Northern Europe are draining due to the LAND-RISING because of the past pressure of a several kilometres thick ice-cap that once weighted the Northern land down. In other areas we see a relative SEA-RISING due to land dropping, especially at the edges of the grinding tectonic plates. Our planet is still ALIVE, and we can see this in beautiful geysers and destructive earthquakes and VOLCANIC eruptions. It is Earth as usual and perfectly normal! That's right, our old Earth have had many such ICE & GREEN CYCLES with each averaging a total of about one hundred thousand years! So, we are extremely lucky to live at the optimum habitual time in current INTER-GLACIAL period, when obviously glaciers and polar caps melt and sea-level goes up. This climatic trend will reverse like a pendulum and the world will again grow massive icecaps that drains much of the seven seas all over again! Sadly, green plants and most living things will slowly perish over the next ice-age's many millenniums. Hopefully, the coming Ice-age will leave us a wide survival "zero-season-zone" around the equator for our future generations to escape to. Earth's complicated and varied climate reflects so many factors like humidity, reflective cloud cover, Earth rotational tilt angle, the shape of the elliptical annual orbit around the sun and interplanetary and interstellar radiation. And most of all, what "mood" our great all mighty SUN happens to be in! We "bipeds" are not as important as we like to think, and we definitely cannot "operate" and "control" Earth climate destiny by choosing a nuclear vs. wind electricity providers and driving a newly manufactured 1830 kg electric car instead of keeping the swift old WV Golf. Vegan of genuine human food makes for no change except for near-zone farting-frequency. Ignore slick advertising and enjoy your unique gift of life to the fullest and give the "climate hysterics" the "finger" because they are out to destroy your mental health for absolutely nothing in return. Trust me, we are so blessed to be alive in this time of history! Finally, the real environmental problems are associated with foolish over-population, over-consumption, over-fishing, rapidly shrinking animal habitats and species eradication. Pollution of seas and air must stop, especially from China and all over Asia.

Shifting over to Thorium Molten Salt Reactors produce ZERO carbon and are scalable to local plants that are self-operating and shut down automatically if something goes wrong. By making the grid more efficient using new tech, reducing the distance from generation to use with local power plants, and using more efficient devices, we can turn this around.

Dominique Charriere Respectable words buddy but consider this. A rational thinker follows the direction of most consistent data. Something that causes them to be accused as being “sheep” by those that prefer to resist because it’s more fun to believe that the world is against you. Once a person has made up their mind, wherever they stand, the last thing they want to do is change it because they associate their beliefs with their self identity and the thought of their identity changing terrifies them. So much so that when faced with evidence that disproves them, the normal human response is to cling even more stubbornly to their beliefs. If the vast majority of experts in their own field agree on something, it’s sensible to take their word for it. If the vast majority of surgeons agree on the best medical practice, it’s sensible to take their word for it. If a carbon monoxide detector in your house has a 97% accuracy rate, you don’t gamble those odds when it goes off. A smart person takes precautions when there’s too much at stake to risk being wrong. By rejecting the science you are claiming a greater understanding on the matter than the majority of climatologists, as well as most of the worlds famous brain boxes (Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking, etc). So have a really hard think about what would have to happen for you to start believing the science. Because chances are you wouldn’t recognise it if it were staring you in the face. Because it is. And you’re not.

They want a new deal based on selling electric cars, solar panels and all sort of new tech, they pay a lot for their narrative to work. In 2021, Earth Overshoot Day lands on July 29. Even if we were able to use only 100% renewable energy, we would still not have enough energy to satisfy our current needs. Next year, Earth overshoot day will be earlier. And the year after, even earlier. The only answer is to find a way to reduce growth, because we live on a finite planet. And whatever growth there is should benefit all of humanity, not just the ones who already own the wealth. But, knowing humans, there's a fat chance of that happening.

The true horror is that we’d already have phased out fossil fuel vehicles years ago if the oil industry didn’t have a stranglehold on the political climate of nearly every first world country. We have the technology, it’s very inexpensive, it’s very useable. You could run a car on used fry oil if you wanted to, they just don’t want to allow it.

Actually most of the dirty emissions come from 3rd world countries and places like India and China that don't care about emissions. The collective emissions of all 1st world countries pales in comparison to that of the rest of the world.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27) I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. (Isaiah 66:4) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15) I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)

Where do we get the energy to mine, cut down forests, fish, farm, and travel to space? Sounds like there's a hell of a lot of innovation to discover. And what happens if there is no better batteries? It's simply impossible to make better batteries to store electricity? What happens then? We all know what needs to happen and that's the very large reductions in Military's around the world, everyone planting their patch of land instead of grass, building useable transit and way less working and way more hanging out and taking care of each other. What do our governments want? Obedient slave for their wars. We have already past the point where most of us will survive and soon it will be very few of us if any. But don't forget be optimistic about it and always look for fantasy technology.

This B.S. must STOP!!!! Carbon Dioxide, the terrible Monster ( which trees need to make Oxygen, Oh that all life on earth needs ) the amount of the Terrible Pollution CO2 in our atmosfear is 0.04 % Yes 0.04 % and of that HUGE amount , Man made CO2 is 3% of 0.04 % Holy C$%P This lie must die soon or we will all be burning our forests to keep warm! We will be for all intents and purposes be back in the stone age!!! How will Greta like that? How Dare you! How Dare You! Question... if CO2 is so DISASTEROUS why do commercial greenhouses buy compressed CO2 and pump it into the growing areas?

  • Khang Nguyen

    Khang Nguyen

    Dag sedan

@doug h Deforestation means less plants to turn CO2 into O2, meaning we have a massive excess of CO2 because of the CO2 production of the Industrial Revolution. Yes, a bit of CO2 is necessary for plants to function, but right now, we have way too much of it in our atmosphere, causing climate change.

  • doug h

    doug h

    Dag sedan

@Khang Nguyen How can this be irrelevant to climate change? The plants really do like the dreaded co2! What would happen if the plants ALL died? Hmmm thinking we would be following right behind... Just thinking about gases we like ... O2 , things the plants poop out?

  • Khang Nguyen

    Khang Nguyen

    6 dagar sedan

@doug h Because then the farms have more control of how much co2 there is, increasing yields. However, this is COMPLETELY irrelevant to climate change.

I hate the idea of a carbon tax, I see that in one of illustrations there’s a cow perhaps portraying the farming/agricultural businesses. Many farmers today are already struggling with high input costs and low commodity prices each year. I personally can’t see a carbon tax helping anyone in the long run, it will increase the cost of your food, the price at which our country sells our commodities to other countries, therefor decreasing exports. I can imagine that would go the same way across all sectors of business if we were to fully rollout a carbon tax.

  • Dundoril

    Dundoril

    21 dag sedan

And when the climate changes and prolonged droughts lead to less wide swings in yields for farmers, they can at least say: well lucky enough I don't pay ant carbon tax on my 90% reduced crop yield

  • Peter Gillis

You mean forcing the market to change by making everything too expensive for most people. Fuck the climate and everyone who supports higher taxes on anything. Get that most humans don't care! Fuck the planet!
