Memory is everything. Imagine you have huge amounts of information, but don't know how to use it, yet. Actually, the ability to recall our fails on how to use it are our ''intelligence''. People forget that storing plenty of data is not intelligence, and the ability to recall the data that (remembers us) wasn't useful, or lead to impractical results, is our strength, thus, leading us to be intelligent. Also having little information is enough to develop intelligence, as we try our best to improve, AND use our memory to recall what was useful and what NOT, is what constitutes the basis of intelligence, even with little data. That's creativity, the ability to try another paths, store the results (Memory), and later try another things while recalling what didn't worked, or what worked the most....and so on, till we find exactly what we were looking for (goal fulfilled). So the amount of information is not that important, as being able to store it (Memory). And Learning is based on memory alone. Many people are not huge data collectors, they're just simple people, but they have strong memory. And that's why they know what to do and what not, thanks to Memory, hence, that's what makes them intelligent.

I've always maintained that intelligence is based off of Knowledge, that is why things like IQ tests make no sense to me. Personally, the only thing that makes us higher animals is our higher consciousness, NOT higher intelligence.

  • Nils

    Nils

    Dag sedan

But IQ tests do not test information knowledge if they are done correctly. But what is relevant for intelligence is methode knowledge. How things work or interact.

  • sunkanmi otitolaye

    sunkanmi otitolaye

    3 dagar sedan

@Veronica Abbott Cazares well, that's what Knowledge basically is, isn't it? Storing Information in memory. We're still driving at the same point. Knowledge is knowing something and for that, you need information and memory, all of it is still Knowledge. For example, you have a 500gb hard drive that's empty, not very useful is it. But then you begin to put information and data on that drive, then it becomes useful. ALL OF IT IS DEFINED AS KNOWLEDGE.

  • Veronica Abbott Cazares

    Veronica Abbott Cazares

    3 dagar sedan

@sunkanmi otitolaye To know something you first need to have a neural network that can store/save that information. Then, you can recall it and USE it, not the inverse. You can't do intelligent activity with no actual information Stored (Memory). That's basic input/output neuroscience.

  • sunkanmi otitolaye

    sunkanmi otitolaye

    3 dagar sedan

@Veronica Abbott Cazares well, if you don't KNOW that something exists, you can't REMEMBER it, so all of it stems from Knowledge. Knowledge is the baseline for everything.

If you think of it seriously, Memory is the basis of intelligence. No memory, no knowledge, hence, no intelligence can be achieved.

[Man] survives by means of man-made products, and . . . the source of man-made products is man’s intelligence. Intelligence is the ability to grasp the facts of reality and to deal with them long-range (i.e., conceptually). On the axiom of the primacy of existence, intelligence is man’s most precious attribute. But it has no place in a society ruled by the primacy of consciousness: it is such a society’s deadliest enemy. Today, intelligence is neither recognized nor rewarded, but is being systematically extinguished in a growing flood of brazenly flaunted irrationality. “THE METAPHYSICAL AND THE MAN-MADE” Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution, 32

  • lamalamalex
    lamalamalexMånad sedan

Intelligence is not an exclusive monopoly of genius; it is an attribute of all men, and the differences are only a matter of degree. If conditions of existence are destructive to genius, they are destructive to every man, each in proportion to his intelligence. If genius is penalized, so is the faculty of intelligence in every other man. There is only this difference: the average man does not possess the genius’s power of self-confident resistance, and will break much faster; he will give up his mind, in hopeless bewilderment, under the first touch of pressure. “REQUIEM FOR MAN” Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, 306

  • lamalamalex
    lamalamalexMånad sedan

Intelligence is the ability to deal with a broad range of abstractions. Whatever a child’s natural endowment, the use of intelligence is an acquired skill. It has to be acquired by a child’s own effort and automatized by his own mind, but adults can help or hinder him in this crucial process. “THE COMPRACHICOS” Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution, 58
