Deep Sea Poster: shop.kurzgesagt.org

Sometimes the world feels boring. All the remote islands are visited, the arctic conquered, the dense jungles discovered. Except, there is still a place to explore: A wet deadly desert where mysterious creatures live in total darkness: The deep sea. Let us dive down.

Why do only some videos have translated titles..? Like on many channels, and it's weirdly translated, like someone wrote a translator program, but they weren't smart enough to actually should have gotten the job. It's always wrong and off, it cheapens the whole concept and video. Like with this title, it's a weird ass sentence that doesn't really make sense if someone who uses that language said it, and at the end where it says "The Deep Sea", that's translated to my language saying something like "Deepsea." Weird, short and wrong. Just pick a language, call the video that, and don't touch it again

  • Steve Wilks

@yigithan.kilinc so they let random community contributions be the face of their videos? As in the title is the first thing people see and read along with the thumbnail. And I say random because the grammar etc is incorrect in more than one language, so if they selected which translations to use they are still to blame. Either way they should have tried harder and it could've been avoided

  • yigithan.kilinc

A desert is many things, but the main defining attribute is aridity. There's no such thing as a wet desert. Changing definitions to be linguistically creative is excusable, but muddying taxonomy because Generation TikTok is too bloody lazy and arrogant to use the plethora of terminological resources literally one click away is reprehensible. Most channels suck; this one doesn't. Please don't sacrifice taxonomic exactitude for one-off turns of phrase. It is the small concessions to ignorance that instantiate Idiocracy. Yes, offense.
